IT IS SCHOOL THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN?
Have you ever thought school was boring, or you didn’t really
like it? That’s the thought some children share, but they don’t know how to
change this.
Nowadays, there are many types of schools which
are looking to develop new ways to hook up children and to get them motivated
during our class lessons. Some of them are the Montessori school, home-schooling…
However, some children don’t go to school, and they also
learn. This is called Unschooling, and it is getting more and more popular around
worldwide between parents, and teachers.
Unschooling has been made for those children who are so
active, and cannot stay calm and quiet. This alternative type of learning doesn’t
use curriculum or tests, or any type of rules about what to do, or where to go.
It chases children’s interest and passions.
The methodology it is based on the principle of
self-directed learning. This methodology figured that children learn whether
they are taught or not. Although this methodology is a self-directed learning,
they can be supported by their parents, or teachers.
It's so popular because children can learn whatever they
want, with totally freedom of choosing during their day-to-day basis. If they
are interested in something, they will ask for it, and we will provide it.
Now, I’m going to talk about what are the main reason which
support this type of learning.
Firstly, being unschooled gives us a environment which is
free from shame. Students usually in normal schools don’t learn properly,
because they are afraid of having shame, or suffer any type of punishment.
The next reason is the type of learning it is used. Thy type
of learning which is used is the curiosity based learning. This learning uses
the biggest tool of learning, with is curiosity, to hook up children and to
learn a lot of things.
The third reason talks about a free stress environment. This
unstressed environment is necessary if we want to develop properly our learning
capacities. This stressing environment is produced by the competitive education
system, and theirs ranking tools.
Another reason it’s the walky-talky environment. This
environment allows children to learn knowledge through their experiences. This
learning is based on the process of learning by doing. Where students are move
more by their instincts, urges and needs.
The fifth reason is focused on trusting our children. We
cannot pretend to teach concepts and procedures, and attitudes, if we don’t trust
our children.
Finally, this type of learning understands children as a
cooperative human being, and not as a competitive human being. This is
important, because the outcome of this learning is to change the world, and we
cannot change it alone, we need to be social.
