DO WE KNOW WHAT MASS MEDIA IS?
Mass media refers to a great array of technological devices (like mobile phones, television, radio, etc.) that reach their audience via mass communication, which is the process of exchanging information through mentioned devices. The companies that control those technological (or even non-technological) devices are also known as mass media.
Mass media can come in different ways. For example, broadcast media transmists information electronically. Digital media sends information via Internet or mobile phones. Internet media encompasses services such as emails, social media or websites, among others. Outdoor media transmits information via billboards or even blimps. Print media transmits information via physical items like books, newspapers or comics. And all of that comes nearly instantly! That's the magic of social media. You search for any information of any topic and nearly everytime you'll get mentioned information on the device. Normally mass media are send by only one transmitter or a group of them, with the intention of send information to receivers.
The history of mass media is quite diverse. Since in diverse empires or eras sending information was different from others, mass media has changed with them.
Here is a list of some different mass media types:
-Books.
-Written press.
-Broadcasting devices (this includes radio and television).
-Cinema (this includes films, movies and any media shown by footages).
-Internet.
-Multimedia content (texts, audio, videos, images, animations...).
-Social media.
In conjunction, mass media has four attributed functions:
-Educate, by specific content whose role is sending knowledge to the receivers. This means mass media can be used in classroom contexts, as a method used for teaching wanted content to our students.
-Give information about something, giving relevant content which is wanted for the receivers to know.
-Create discussions by sharing opinions about a certain topic.
-Entertainment.
